I recently spent 3 days mountain biking in Las Vegas with the legendary Ben Bostrom. Ben loves to torture his friends in the Nevada desert. As his Strava accolades prove, he has spent as much time in the last several years exploring mountain bike trails near Las Vegas as anyone. Ben knows the area WELL and has even developed over 20 miles of trails himself in a new area near Enterprise. Here are three rides he hand picked for us that you have to check out next time you are in the area!
Day 1 - Blue Diamond
Starting in the quaint, little town of Blue Diamond (population 290), you have access to a ton of great trails. The trails consist of modest rocky obstacles and brief climbs. Its a great area for riders of any skill level. Make sure to check out Bonnie Springs Ranch at the end of your ride for a drink. This wild west themed restaurant and saloon also has an authentic replica of an 1880's mining town with shows and events throughout the day.
Day 2- Bootleg Canyon
Bootleg Canyon is just outside Boulder City, near the Hoover Dam (call it Boulder Dam if you want to make friends with the locals). The riding in Bootleg Canyon is a bit more extreme than Blue Diamond with some big cliffs and high exposure on some of the trails. It is a popular area for downhill runs and you can easily hook up with a shuttle if you choose to go that route. Don't pass over the Boulder City Brewery after your ride!
Day 3 - Enterprise
This is a new riding area that Ben has been developing with several of his friends and was excited to show us. The trails are a mix between Blue Diamond and Bootlegger Canyon - some with moderate climbing and easy to navigate terrain and some with steep climbing and high exposure. As with all our rides, we were never too far away from a good beer. Make sure you check out the 32 Draft Bar at the M Resort across the 15 freeway for a great selection of beer.
